This document is meant to replace the Born-Digital Dealer/Donor Questionnaire, which is now depreciated. The  The purpose of this document is to guide Houghton staff in the acquisition and transfer of born-digital content. The information ascertained from these questions is crucial in facilitating and ensuring that born-digital acquisitions materials are transferred into Houghton's care efficiently and diligently. If this information is not gathered and sent to the Digital Archivist via email, delays in properly processing and capturing the content will result.

Instructions for Use:

  • Generate or download the questionnaire:
    • 1) copy and paste the below information into a Google Document or a Microsoft Word file, or
    • 2) download a pre-made Word document here: 
  • Name the file according to the following convention:
    • BDAppraisal-[MSNumber]-[YearMonthDate] 
    • Example: BDAppraisal-MSThr2085-20211108

  1. Please list associated Collection Identifiers here (accession number, manuscript number): 
  2. What born-digital content should be transferred? Please be as specific as possible.
  3. How does this subset of content relate to the overall collection?
  4. Media Type: What types of born-digital media are there, if any? 
  5. File formats: What types of computer files are there? Examples: Word processing files (.doc, .txt), photographs (.jpeg)
  6. Computing habits: Please describe work and/or computing habits related to the content that should be transferred. For example: drafts are written first by hand then inputted into computer; dance compositions are compiled in InDesign
