When processing accruals to already processing collections, processors should aim tointellectually integrate the content of the new records within the existing collection structure, but not physically integrate the records into existing boxes, unless the size of the accrual is just a folder or two.  If the new materials do not fit within the existing series structure, new series or subseries may be added, but they should be intellectually grouped and titled as we would any series or subseries (i.e. the Center does not create separate “new additions since YYYY” series for accruals).

New boxes should be assigned the next sequential number.

Processors should be sure to update the volume, acquisition and provenance information, processing information, restrictions notice, collection-level scope and content note, control access terms, and series descriptions, if necessary, for both the finding aid and the MARC record. For specific EAD encoding guidance on describing accruals, see the Post-publication revisions and updates section of the EAD Finding Aids page.
