Transfer library materials via Harvard University Mail and Distribution Services (HUMS)
How HUMS works
An emailed pick up request sent to hd_trans@harvard.edu will result in a pickup of the materials the following day.
Materials picked up in the morning will reach their destination that afternoon. HUMS will communicate via email in the rare event that an afternoon delivery does not happen.
Depending on the workload and time of year, some emailed requests may be picked up the same day.
In these cases, the materials will reach the destination the following morning.
HUMS will communicate via email if an emailed pickup request will not occur according to the above timelines.
- Instructions for safely packing and transporting materials
What to expect from Imaging Services
Imaging Services staff will send you an email to confirm what we've received from HUMS.
Imaging Services staff will notify you via email when we've shipped materials back to your library via HUMS.
Note that we will not exchange signatures for batches received and returned when HUMS is used.
