This is the main page of the project which serves as a mere guidance.
I have started working on this project on Summer 2022 and will work (at least for now) until the end of Spring 2023.
- The final state that includes the description, documentation, and data analysis tool of the project is under the title DIMSUM Documentation:
DIMSUM Documentation. - My trip to Chile to install the instrumentation (DIMSUM) to Auxiliary Telescope in Vera Rubin Observatory is documented in Dec 2022 Chile Trip, Ali Kurmus. The old location is Ali Kurmus Chile Log.
- My work in Summer 2022 and informal notes are located in Ali Kurmus Summer 2022 Log.
- Development of the software to analyze DIMSUM first generation data is located in Software Analysis of Differential Image Motion For DIMSUM Vol 1. However, the official analysis packages are located in DIMSUM Documentation.
- The small milestones in the very beginning of the project are documented under the milestones. They can be accessed as subpages of this wiki.
Nov 2023 DIMSUM upgrade plan:
- To avoid focus changes with temperature, which are hard to accommodate without manual refocus, change to camera-controlled Canon lens. Canon EF 100-400mm lens allows for variable-FOV measurement too. We'll need to increase light level.
- Make mount for camera more robust. Use two flat plates clamped onto square rail, and robust tip-tilt mount head
- Need to upgrade software to take daytime focus images with 'manual' control of focus through g-photo2.
- perhaps add more sources, farther apart, and use shorter focal length settings
- replace batteries in wireless flash control with AC adapter units.
February 2024, updated software analysis for second generation DIMSUM
For now the information about this updates is located in the page Software Analysis Guide And Reminders For Chris February 2024.
