Transfer library materials via Harvard University Mail and Distribution Services (HUMS)

How HUMS works

  • An emailed pick up request sent to hd_trans@harvard.edu will result in a pickup of the materials the following day.

  • Materials picked up in the morning will reach their destination that afternoon. HUMS will communicate via email in the rare event that an afternoon delivery does not happen.

  • Depending on the workload and time of year, some emailed requests may be picked up the same day.

  • In these cases, the materials will reach the destination the following morning.

  • HUMS will communicate via email if an emailed pickup request will not occur according to the above timelines.

What to expect from Imaging Services

  • Imaging Services staff will send you an email to confirm what we've received from HUMS.

  • Imaging Services staff will notify you via email when we've shipped materials back to your library via HUMS.

  • Note that we will not exchange signatures for batches received and returned when HUMS is used.
