VII.5. Multi-Volume Sets

In order to display the item records correctly, holdings records for multi-volume sets must be paired correctly with appropriate MARC fields.  Harvard holdings are recorded in paired fields 853/863, 854/864, and 855/865 to the extent possible.  Alma automatically generates holdings statements in fields 866, 867, and 868 from these paired fields.  Fields 966, 967, and 968 may be used for manually generated holdings statements in exceptional cases.  Consult the Metadata Standards Working Group Best Practices for examples on recording holdings data for single part monographs, multipart monographs, and serials.

Each volume should have its own item record (unless the set is truly a single unit and are all housed in a single slipcase or CMI). After creating the first item record, click Duplicate to create new item records for each piece. Update the Enumeration, Chronology and Description fields as needed to match each piece.
