Notes on AC297r (Capstone Project)

RoadMap (Oct 23)

email to Pavlos :

I went through the material for the course in the previous site : http://ac297r.org/ and identified what could go to Canvas, what could be in a "showcase" site. So we can be as much flexible as we want. What I propose is:

1. Have a main Canvas site with all assignments, syllabus, class material, ipython tutorial material, piazza link, assignments. We can arrange the students in groups and they will get their own "subsite" to exchange info. They can have their material either in canvas, in piaza or in GoogleDocs for within Canvas, or anywhere else with a link.

In Canvas we can keep track of the assignment due dates, prograss deadlines, etc. The people page is also nice, they can see their classmates and have a sense of community.

2. Have a plain Bootstrap site hosted probably in your AWS folder. We can have project info for clients there and links to Canvas. We can think about ways to communicate progress to clients, could be done via Canvas or at the showcase site.

I will not have time for more elaborate design but I think this will look very good once we have the right images and content.

I also repurposed the old IACS Challenge site for our communication. We can also use the google docs that we made, it's just that I find the wiki to foster more organization : https://harvardwiki.atlassian.net/wiki/display/IACSCC/

Objectives

-- Give http://ac297r.org/ an refreshed home. Site audience : companies and prospective students. Needs to have : Home page - Schedule - Syllabus - Policies (with better name)

-- Decide between two site options :

a) html hosted in AWS. pros : cool slim look, 100% customization, cons : more time consuming, multiple people editing a bit harder, we need git (or can figure out a simpler way as long as there is clear communication between people editing)

b) hosted in OS. pros : ease of creation, hassle-free maintenance, very easy multiple editing and version control, cons : 60% customization.

-- Content issue

How to transfer - or not - the iPython (markdown, yes) Notebook pages to Canvas.

Tasks

  • Eleni to look at options and propose something.
  • Eleni to contact David Hwang about TF.
  • look into ipython content presentation.
