General usage

Clicking on one of the facets immediately filters the current search results set to include only the items that match that facet. For instance, selecting the "Book" facet under Resource Type will limit the results to books. Multiple facets of different types may be combined to fine-tune the results list further, for instance limiting results to books in English that are held at Widener. Currently selected facets appear at the top of the search results list, where each one can be cleared by clicking the X.

Remember filter (persistent filters through search session)

Once a facet has been selected, you can "lock" it in for your entire session by clicking on the padlock icon. This will make it persist even if you conduct new searches.

You can all ‘Remember all filters’ to lock in all facets at once.

Choose multiple facets or exclude facets

To select multiple facets at once (having the effect of an "OR" operator), use the checkboxes that appear when you have over the facet, then choose Apply Filters.

To exclude a facet, use the red crossed-out checkbox icon that appears on the right of a facet when you hover over it.

‘Show only’ options

  • Online - content available online, either in whole or partially.

  • Physical media - includes print, A/V media, microform, data drives, etc. (Also includes all MARC holdings, and therefore also locally digitized materials.)

  • Locations with browsable stacks - a curated list of open stacks that can be accessed by patrons.

  • Open access - based on information supplied by vendors and data providers.

  • Peer-reviewed - based on information supplied by Ulrich's.

Keyword and Subject facets

The Keyword facet includes Articles in CDI and records in Library Catalog. It is a mix of vocabularies from different vendors and data sources.

The Subject facet includes specific library vocabularies from records in the Library Catalog scope only. When topical subdivisions are present they are collapsed as individual entries:

  • Dogs

  • Dogs - Behavior

  • Dogs - History

Each facet handles Library of Congress Subject headings differently. Differences noted in the table below.
