Order Item Barcodes
Barcode Types
This page is for ordering the14-digit numerical barcodes (starting with 32044...) that are traditionally used for on-campus materials. LTS does not manage the numerical sequence for the shorter, alphanumeric "HD" barcodes, traditionally used for off-site collections.
A single range of numerical (32044...) item barcode numbers is maintained and shared by all libraries at Harvard. In order to avoid duplication of barcode numbers, you must provide the number of unique barcode numbers required for your order before start numbers can be given out.
NOTE: As of 2023, Data2 requires a minimum order of $250. For 2mm single barcodes, this is around 6000 labels.
Ordering barcodes is a 2 step process.
Request start and end numbers from LTS. Please include:
Contact information
Item or patron barcodes?
Logical quantity: Total number of unique barcode numbers being ordered
Physical quantity: Total number of physical stickers (if ordering singles, this will be the same as the logical quantity; if ordering doubles, it will be the logical quantity x2)
Type of barcodes being ordered – e.g. 40011, Singles, 2-mil Acrylic
LTS will respond with the start and end numbers to use for your barcode order. When start and end numbers are received, order barcodes directly with Data2, using the information below.

Pairs are two identical bar code labels, triples are three identical bar code labels, pricing is per 1,000 labels. Note that the vendor requires orders in minimum increments of 1000 barcode numbers.
