Service Description
Harvard Library E-Resources that have been licensed by a third party vendor/provider for use by current Harvard affiliates. Access is typically through links in HOLLIS, Canvas course reserves lists, and other library discovery services. Some examples: Research databases, online reference works, scholarly journal archives, individual online journal articles.
Authorization and Authentication Information
As of January 2026, HarvardKey login access is handled by OpenAthens, EZproxy, or individual single-sign-on; all systems use the same authorization logic, detailed below. After EZproxy is retired later in 2026, all HarvardKey access will be through OpenAthens or individual single-sign-on.
Automatic authorization on in-library workstations based on Harvard Cambridge campus IP address will be phased out in 2026 with the retirement of EZproxy. Guest users who are not eligible for HarvardKey access can log in to OpenAthens resources from in-library computers using a special OpenAthens account.
