Still Image Resource Type

Still Image Resource Type

The “Still image” resource type should be used for objects primarily containing still image files.

A still image object must contain, at minimum, a single still image file. Still image objects may also include: additional still image files, MIX metadata files, color profiles, or other sidecar files.

The Still Image Resource Type is analogous to the DRS2 Still Image Content Model (CMID-5.0).

Object Metadata

In addition to the global metadata requirements for all objects, the following metadata elements (or specific values, as shown) are required for still image objects:

File Metadata

Still image file

In addition to the global metadata requirements for all files, the following metadata elements (or specific values, as shown) are required for still image files:

The following metadata elements are recommended for still image files (if applicable):

For optional and system-supplied metadata elements, please review the DRS3 Data Dictionary.

MIX metadata files

In addition to the global metadata requirements for all files, the following metadata elements (or specific values, as shown) are required for MIX metadata files:

The following metadata elements and values are recommended for MIX metadata files:

Color profiles

TAKE NOTE Many image formats can have color profile data embedded in them. Embedding color profile data in the image itself is preferable to including a separate color profile.

In addition to the global metadata requirements for all files, the following metadata elements (or specific values, as shown) are required for color profiles:

The following metadata elements and values are recommended for color profiles:

Relationships

Files within still image objects should be referenced by relationship metadata elements when appropriate. For example:

  • Has Color Profile (RelHasColorPro) = Color profile[|||]/objectFolder/colorProfile.XML[|||]BOTH

    • Supply this in the metadata of the preservation file.

  • Has Metadata (RelHasMeta) = MIX metadata[|||]/objectFolder/MIX.XML[|||]BOTH

    • Supply this in the metadata of the preservation file.

  • Has Source (RelHasSrc) = Source image[|||]/objectFolder/preservationFile.TIF[|||]BOTH

    • Supply this in the metadata of a delivery file.

Delivery Requirements

TAKE NOTE In DRS3, the Image Delivery Service (IDS) will generate a deliverable automatically from a TIF or JP2 file. For many workflows, this will mean that a single file in TIF or JP2 format will serve as both the preservation file and the file from which a deliverable is generated. Other workflows may still result in separate files for each purpose.

Question: When would I deposit multiple files?
Answer: There might be many reasons, but a couple of likely situations are:
- Your preservation file is not a TIF or a JP2.
- Your delivery file is edited (e.g., a cropped version of the preservation file).

IMPORTANT For successful delivery, the file from which your deliverable is generated must be TIF or JP2 format.

In addition to the requirements and recommendations above, the following metadata elements are required for delivery (supplied for the file from which your deliverable will be generated):

The following metadata elements are recommended for delivery:

  • [File] Owner Supplied Name (D3OSN) = [user supplied]

  • File Role (FileRole) = “DELIVERABLE”

    • Note that File Role is repeatable. If multiple values apply, supply them in the following format: ARCHIVAL[|]DELIVERABLE (value[|]value).

The following metadata elements are optional for delivery:
