Digital Accessions Program
Goal of the Digital Accessions Program (DAP)
DAP aims to coordinate with Harvard University’s various Curatorial Units (units managed by librarians, archivists, curators, collection managers, stewards or those exercising significant intellectual or administrative control or oversight over digital materials) to assist with reducing accessioning backlogs by providing a centralized digital accessioning service of born-digital and common physical media types to help meet their needs. The Digital Accessions Specialist leads the program and will advise on appropriate accessioning paths for media types, which may include referrals to Media Preservation Services, Imaging Services, or outside vendors. See the About and Background page for more information about DAP’s inception.
Curatorial Units considering using the DAP that do not already have digital archives/stewardship workflows and processes in place are strongly encouraged to become familiar with the DFWG Recommendations and Common Practices for Working with Born-Digital Content (note: Harvard wiki account required for access) wiki document to understand Harvard-specific archival/curatorial work recommendations and responsibilities throughout the digital stewardship life cycle.
The DAP service encompasses the Digital Accessioning portions of the conceptual Digital Archives Workflows generated by the Digital Forensics Working Group (DFWG; note that Harvard wiki account is required for accessing DFWG wiki pages).
See the DAP Workflow page for how DAP works within the Accessioning portion of DFWG’s larger conceptual workflows.
See the DAP Service Details page for a detailed description of what the service can do, and what is expected from Curatorial Units.
See the DAP Workflow Terminology page for details about specific terms used for this service.
