Example 27: Publication date used as chronology for monographic series
Many monographic series lack true chronological designations. In such cases, the date of publication of the issue may be recorded as a chronological designation instead to give the user an indication of the time frame of the issues. This date may not appear on the title page. In the example that follows, the publication date was taken from the verso of the title page.

Note: Spending time recording dates of publication as chronological designations for monographic series may be of questionable value, since monographic series are often published out of chronological order. However, recording dates of publication as chronological designations can be helpful to library users and staff.
