Harvard Library Viewer - Image Delivery Service
- JP2 Grayscale
Library Viewer for IDS and PDS cannot deliver JP2s with color profile Gray (any variations of Gray scale). Images need to be deposited into DRS as either bitonal or RGB or sRGB but not Gray.
Harvard Library Viewer - Page Delivery Service
- Printing
If a patron requests a PDF of exactly 11 pages in the Library Viewer, the request fails silently - no email will be sent to the patron. Requests for 10 or fewer pages are displayed in a new browser window. Requests for 12 or more pages will successfully send an email link using the email address entered. For 11 pages exactly, the patron is asked to put in an email address, but the link is never sent.
Interim solution: We are working on a fix, but, in the meantime, the workaround is to request 12 pages instead of 11. The patron will then get an email with a PDF link.
- Updates to PDS Objects are not displaying in the Viewer
There is an issue with PDS object updates made in the DRS WebAdmin structure editor not being communicated to the Harvard Library Viewer - PDS. For example, if a staff member changes the page order of a PDS Object, adds or deletes sections, or changes page labels using DRS WebAdmin, these changes won't show up in the public display.
Interim solution: After making needed changes in DRS Web Admin submit a ticket with the DRS Object ID to LTS support. LTS will run the job needed to update the public display.
- View Text feature doesn't work for restricted objects
If the files in a PDS Object with OCR files have the Access Flag set to 'R', the View Text link presents a 'Text Unavailable' message. The page images for the PDS Object will display, but the text will not.

- Viewer sometimes uses dimensions from wrong image when there are multiple images per page
If the pages of a PDS object have more than one image per page each with different dimensions, the Viewer may select the wrong set of dimensions for display. For instance, take an object has an uncropped archival image as well as a cropped delivery image. If the uncropped archival images is 15 inches high by 25 inches wide, but the cropped images are 11 inches high by 9 inches wide, the thumbnails and page images in the Viewer may use the 15X25 dimensions. The thumbnails will be the wrong orientation, and the page images, while usable, will be zoomed in to an unusual amount.

- Viewer: TOC doesn't show label for subsections in certain cases
In the WebAdmin PDS Structure editor, it is possible to add nested sections to the table of contents. If a section has a single subsection with pages, only the section label will display in the Harvard Library Viewer. If a section has more than one subection, then all subsection labels will display in the Viewer.
Example 1: Section 1 -> Subsection 1 -> seq1, seq2, seq3
Outcome: TOC will display Section 1 -> seq1,seq2,seq3
Example 2: Section A -> Subsection a -> seq1,seq2; Subsection b -> seq3, seq4
Outcome: TOC will display Section A -> Subsection a -> seq1,seq2; Subsection b -> seq3, seq4
DRS2 WebAdmin
- Downloading objects from DRS doesn't always work
When trying to download an object or a set of objects from WebAdmin, the zip file that is delivered sometimes is empty or doesn't include all the files and objects selected.
Interim solution: Follow the instructions in the Requesting Bulk Downloads of Objects from the DRS page to notify LTS Support about the objects you need to download.
- Delivery URN for PDS objects when there are multiple URNs
It is possible to create URNs to specific sections in PDS objects using the Structure Editor. If the PDS object has more than one URN, however, the URN that shows up as the PDS Delivery URN at the top of the WebAdmin Object Summary page is not necessarily the URN that resolves to the first page of the document.
