A single range of item barcode numbers is maintained and shared by all libraries at Harvard. In order to avoid duplication of barcode numbers, you must provide the number of unique barcode numbers required for your order before start numbers can be given out.

NOTE: As of 2023, Demco requires a minimum order of $250. For 2mm single barcodes, this is around 6000 labels.

Ordering barcodes is a 2 step process. 

  1. Request start and end numbers from LTS. Please include:
    1. Contact information
    2. Item or patron barcodes?
    3. Logical quantity: Total number of unique barcode numbers being ordered
    4. Physical quantity: Total number of physical stickers (if ordering singles, this will be the same as the logical quantity; if ordering doubles, it will be the logical quantity x2)
    5. Type of barcodes being ordered – e.g. W17103640, Singles, 2-mil Acrylic
  2. LTS will respond with the start and end numbers to use for your barcode order. When start and end numbers are received, order barcodes directly with Demco, using the information below.

Pairs are two identical barcode labels, double-stacked are also pairs – one full label plus one smaller label (number-only). Pricing is per 1,000 labels. Note that the vendor usually requires orders in minimum increments of 1000 barcode numbers.
