Q&A
Given decentralized descriptive practices across Harvard Library repositories, and given how bespoke the ASpace PUI had been, is there any enduring tension between standardized versus local descriptive practices? Any change management that will be required as a result of this transition to ArcLight?
There will always be some tension between any new system and existing practices. We want to ensure that we support good descriptive practice, and will work with repositories if there are any incongruities. Additionally, ArchivesSpace 4.0 will include a bulk update tool, which will reduce the work needed to remediate any legacy issues.
Will links to images in HOLLIS Images also embed in ArcLight?
No - only images served by MPS (via IIIF) will embed.
Is there a timeline for implementation?
Currently, launch is a moving target due to the work required (data pipeline, UX work). Spring or summer 2025 is an approximate goal right now.
Is the information provided via the “How to Request” link repository-specific?
If a repository does not use Aeon, the Request button will open a pop-up message telling the user to email the division (via a provided address). The “How to Request” link goes to the general HOLLIS for Archival Discovery LibGuide for requesting.
