Scan Alignment and Fusion

Navigation

To navigate in DAVID model view is mostly similar to how you would navigate in Rhino. However if you want to pan around the model in the 3d view, left click on your mouse slowly twice, hold down to the left click as you click on the view for the second time and drag around the window. (double check)

Clean Up

Before aligning all the scans, delete all surface segments that are not helpful for alignment. Select scan(s) you want to clean. Click on xx to select surfaces to be deleted, then click on x to clean all the surfaces. (Show images of cleaning process)

Alignment

1. Select the type of alignment you wish to use. 
   
   
   1. Free
      This is a convenient alignment option if the scanned model had a distinct shape and the scans overlapped well. 
      
      
   2. Around Y-Axis
      Around Y-Axis option is perfect if the model was fixed and scanned on a turn table.
      
      
   3. Global Fine Registration
      This option is used when all scans are aligned. Global Fine Registration makes minor adjustment to the aligned scans as a whole.
      
      
2. When an Alignment Mode is selected, Click Align to start alignment manually. First click on one scan (A) as a reference. Then click on the second Scan (B) to aligned to Scan (A). (double check, the manual is written differently from how the software is operated) The software will automatically move the second selected surface to the first reference object and align it to its best capacity. Make sure there is a fair amount of overlap surface between Scan A and B for efficient alignment. Note: the software would also use the location of each click as reference point. Click the overlapping part of the object on both surface for better accuracy. 

Fusion

1. Make all scans visible for fusion. The scans that are not visible will not be included in fusion.
