Ad Hoc Committee to Review the Administrative Boards of Harvard College and Harvard Griffin GSAS

Purpose:
The Faculty of Arts and Sciences has delegated to the administrative boards of the Harvard College and of the Harvard Kenneth C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (Harvard Griffin GSAS) the power to enforce the regulations of the Faculty relating to education and for the conduct of all ordinary matters of administration and discipline. By consistently applying the regulations of the Faculty, the boards foster student growth as individuals, scholars, and members of our academic community.
As bodies empowered by the Faculty, periodic review ensures that our practices evolve to accommodate changes in policy and our society. This review is intended to explore a number of key issues including the members and composition of the boards, the framework used for sanctioning students in disciplinary cases, the appeals process, and how the boards educate the community about their work.

Purpose:
The purpose of the Civil Discourse Advisory Group is to develop a unified vision of civil discourse across the FAS and to advise on strategic interventions to support these efforts. Through these coordinated actions, the Advisory Group aims to embed civil discourse within the campus culture, promoting a respectful and inclusive environment for meaningful dialogue across differences.

Purpose:
Teaching and learning environments are most effective when participants speak, listen, and ask questions of each other with curiosity and respect. Civil discourse increases the likelihood that diverse perspectives will be heard and that participants will be open to new ideas. These cultural norms are particularly important in the classroom.
To help make the most of Harvard’s learning environment – to support students in their intellectual growth and faculty in their teaching mission – the Classroom Social Compact Committee seeks to articulate a set of expectations for students and their instructors, which will promote discovery, learning, and meaningful dialogue in our classrooms.

This group will provide expert guidance to the Dean's Senior Advisor on AI, ensuring the informed implementation of AI technologies in teaching, research, and administrative functions, positioning FAS as a leader in AI applications in higher education.
