The 977 holdings field is local to Harvard and is sometimes referred to as the "Bound with" field. It is used in these cases:

  • when the item record for the resource is attached to a different bib record
  • when the resource is contained in a box or other container which has a separate identifier or barcode

For subfield definitions, please refer to Harvard defined MARC fields

HOLLIS functionality

When then 977 field contains a bibliographic record number in subfield f, a note is displayed in the HOLLIS Get It section.  The subfield f is converted to a hyperlink which will take the user to the HOLLIS record for the bib number referenced in the subfield f. Subfields a, s, and t also display.

If the first indicator of the 977 field is 9, then no information from the 977 will display in HOLLIS.

Aeon functionality

When the 977 fields contains $w (container identifier), the data in $w is pre-populated into the Aeon form (staff view only) when the View in Library link is clicked.

NOTE: the 977 field does NOT generate a View in Library link in the item record. The View in Library link is present when: there is an item record, and the library/location participates in Aeon, and the item policy is 90 or 91 (Special collections requestable).
