Emergencies

A generally good first step in a collections emergency should be to contact the Library Conservation Emergency Team, LCET. They are available 24 hours by phone.

Microfilm

Reboxing is a good idea. If it is possible to do so, unwind the film a bit in order to be sure that the film dries but doesn't stick together permanently. If you have space on a table or desk you could probably just unwind the whole spool and leave it to air dry on its edge over the weekend. The idea is just to get air flowing on each side of the film strip. If further advice is required, contact a photo conservator.
