Winter/Spring 2019

Library Technology Services and Harvard Library staff are engaging in a Pilot project to extend batch load functions to library staff to create bibliographic records and stub holdings and items from Excel/CSV and other file types, either locally created or provided by vendors.

Pilot Milestones

  1. Testing by pre-pilot participant and creation of generic load profile in Alma (February 2018/March 2019).
  2. Creation of training program/documentation, based on Batch Load Bibs/Holdings/Items training materials (February 2018/March 2019).

Further discussion revealed this doesn't need to be separate class - the process of creating the Excel/CSV file can be added to the existing class and the rest remains the same. This pilot project will continue, but will be combined training-wise with the general Batch Load/Import Profile pilot.

  1. Pilot cohort training on record load from file process (expected March April 2019).
  2. Alma Sandbox Login will be updated with Resource Management Extended Plus (expected March April 2019).
  3. Pilot members will independently practice loading records (expected March April 2019).
  4. Once pilot members feel comfortable with the process, they will ask LTS to review the records loaded. (expected MarchApril/April May 2019)
  5. LTS will review the records loaded for the operator and approve submitted login request form. (expected MarchApril/April May 2019)
  6. Alma Production Login will be updated with Resource Management Extended Plus. (expected MarchApril/April May 2019)
  7. Pilot member can begin to load records in production, in line with the best practices covered in training. (expected MarchApril/April May 2019)
  8. Revise training program based on pilot input. (Expected April 2019)
  9. Extend training to all Harvard Library users with need for batch loading. (Expected May 2019)
