  • Never enter patron ID numbers, i.e. passport or driver’s license numbers, into Aeon.
  • Do not clear or sign Imported users into a reading room. User records imported from the old Houghton patron database will have a one to five digit id as their username; users imported from the old Countway patron database with have a username that starts MED. In the ID Type field for these patrons, you will see the word imported Imported. If you see that a patron only has an old imported account, make sure that person re-registers. Do not clear or sign those users into a reading room. 
  • The barcode on a patron's Harvard ID card or Special Collections Card expresses their Aeon username and can be scanned to pull up the associated uesr user records in Aeon. Remember to take the last digit off the HUID after you scan it in (this is a counting digit not recognized by HarvardKey when the patron creates an account).
