Printing Method

Description

What LTS needs in order to configure

Email-enabled networked printerAlma prints directly to an email-enabled network printer that has its own email address. (
As of 8/2018, no libraries are using
BER is the only known library with this setup.)
  • Email address associated with the printer
Manual printing by libraryAlma sends print jobs to an existing library/user email account (e.g. lamcirc@fas.harvard.edu). Library staff must print emails either manually or by setting up an email client rule.
  • Email address
to
  • that will receive print jobs
Namtuk: Automated printing to a non-email-enabled networked printer using third-party print management solution.
Alma Quick PrintAlma sends print jobs
to a dedicated email address hosted by LTS (e.g. lamcirc@hulmail.harvard.edu). Mail is routed through a third party print management system (Namtuk AEM) and automatically printed to an existing networked printer at the library.
  • Printer IP address (must be static)
  • Printer make and model (e.g. HP 4015dn)
  • Alma Circ and TS locations that should be printed to this printer
  • Library unit's IT field support contact (for questions)
through the browser's print dialog menu – user must click/key through the print dialog box every time.
    • No LTS setup – user just checks the "Quick Print Enabled" checkbox in the Alma desk location dropdown menu.
    • Note that using quickprint requires an email address to be configured, and users must still "choose" a printer when using Quick Print.
Alma Printouts QueueAlma provides options to allow printouts, slips, and letters to be aggregated in a print queue and printed from your browser. Using this option, instead of sending printouts to an email address assigned to the printer, the printouts will be saved in the printouts queue, which can be accessed at any time by authorized staff to review and send the relevant printouts to a printer via the browser.
    • Queue management requires an additional Alma permission; Contact LTS support.
