DACS states that “It is a local decision which names, terms, and concepts found in a description will be included as formal access points.” These fields display as ‘Author’ in the HOLLIS OPAC. Briefly, access points have already been mentioned in the >520, and >351 fields.  Entries can be made for some of these:

Use these terms if appropriate, selecting from the relator term list in the Cataloger’s Desktop and on the MARC Code List for Relators This list displays full words and three letter abbreviated codes. Use only the full words. 

Some possible terms are:

            addressee

            annotator

            artist

            recipient            signer

            translator 


Other lists of relator terms are available in the RDA cataloging data. Any appropriate relator term may be used at cataloger’s discretion.

$$p    Name of part/section of a work

$$e    relator term.   We often use $$erecipient $$e recipient or $$ecorrespondent $$e correspondent to delineate why the name is here when referring to letters.  If If the name is a correspondent and an author, just enter the name as a plain 700 with no relator code. 

$$j    Attribution qualifier.   "Attribution information for names when the responsibility is unknown, uncertain, fictitious, or pseudonymous.   Qualifiers should be used that follow the name of a known artist for the work."   [Most often used for artists.]

$$t    title of a work.  If the collection includes a work by another person, that person will get an added entry, and the name of the work should be entered in this subfield.

730   Added entry – uniform title.

Uniform titles bring together records for the same work when different manifestations (e.g. translations) appear under different titles. 

Displays in HOLLIS OPAC as ‘Other titles:’

Use field >730 for a title added entry that cannot be generated by any other field. See field >130 for more information.

Use this field instead of or in addition to >740 when there is a uniform title for the work in question.  The most useful subfield is $$l (language).

Punctuation: end End each subfield with a mark of punctuation.

740    Added entry – uncontrolled related/analytical title.

"This field is used for added entries for uncontrolled related titles and uncontrolled analytical titles.   Uncontrolled means that the title is not controlled through an authority file or another bibliographic record.   The field may contain the title portion of a related work that would normally be entered under a name/title heading in catalog entry form."   See MARC21 specs for full information. 

Use this field to record titles that are associated with the collection, described in the text of the record, and not indexed as part of the >245 field. Initial articles are dropped.
