7xx: Added entries

DACS states that “It is a local decision which names, terms, and concepts found in a description will be included as formal access points.” These fields display as ‘Author’ in HOLLIS OPAC. Briefly, access points have already been mentioned in the >520, and >351 fields.  Entries can be made for some of these:

1.     Names of others that are authors or recipients within a collection.

2.     Other important associated names, according to circumstances, as described in the text of the record, using relator terms as necessary, i.e.: ‘copyist’, ‘annotator’, ‘former owner.’

Use subfield $$e relator term.

Use these terms if appropriate, selecting from the relator term list in the Cataloger’s Desktop and on the MARC Code List for Relators This list displays full words and three letter abbreviated codes. Use only the full words.

Some possible terms are:

            addressee

            annotator

            artist

            binder

            collector

            compiler

            correspondent

            depositor

            donor

            editor

            photographer

            signer

            translator

Other lists of relator terms are available in the RDA cataloging data. Any appropriate relator term may be used at cataloger’s discretion.

700   Added entry – personal name.

[updated 05/09/2014]

Note: that if a name has already appeared as a main entry (i.e., in a >1xx field), it should not reappear as an added 7xx entry. For example, in a record for correspondence, an added entry with the relator term $$e correspondent should be made for persons not named in the >100, but no additional entry will be made to indicate that the person in the main entry is the recipient of some letters as well as the writer of others.

When there are multiple 700s, arrange them alphabetically.

Punctuation: end each subfield with a mark of punctuation.
