Recommendation

It is recommended that all catalogers at Harvard using RDA should follow the LC-PCC Policy Statements as set by the Library of Congress and the Program for Cooperative Cataloging. In some instances, however, the Policy Statements contain two different instructions, one from the Library of Congress and a differing instruction from the PCC. In such instances, Harvard catalogers should follow the PCC instructions. Following the PCC instructions does not imply creating BIBCO records, only that when faced with alternatives in RDA, we recommend aligning our decisions with the PCC. Catalogers who do participate in national programs like BIBCO and CONSER should of course follow all the guidelines of those programs. Please note that some communities, such as Music, have additional best practices or policy statements that may, in rare circumstances, supersede LC and PCC guidance. Please consult with your manager for additional guidance as necessary.
