Purpose

To collocate all catalog descriptions of archived web content, the Metadata Standards Working Group strongly advises that Harvard libraries and archives provide a single, consistent genre/form term in all MARC catalog records representing archived web content.

Term and encoding

655 _7 $$a Web archives. $$2 aat

Explanation of choice of controlled vocabulary

As of 2019-01-03 the term “Web archives” is in the Art and Architecture Thesaurus and in Library of Congress Subject Headings but is not in Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms (LCGFT) vocabulary.  In Alma, authority control of the 655 is optimized for the use of LCGFT terms. If at some time the term is added to LCGFT, the choice of controlled vocabulary in this best practice will be revisited.

Explanation of choice of MARC tag

Form/genre is recommended by the OCLC Research Library Partnership Web Archiving Metadata Working Group.
