Grouper group sync
The former on-premise Harvard Wiki service created and populated groups mirroring Grouper groups by examining login attributes from Harvard Key. These attributes described a user’s Grouper group memberships and using this information automation created Grouper related groups in the Wiki if they did not exist and otherwise ensured that a user was a member of each group specified in the login attributes.
The new Harvard Wiki Cloud services does not offer tracking of Harvard Key login attributes but does allow Grouper group syncing directly from Grouper. The Wiki support team has work with the HUIT Identity and Access Management (IAM) team to sync Grouper groups that space owners have requested to use for space permissions.
As Grouper groups are sync’d the groups will contain more users than have licenses to access Harvard Wiki. When a Grouper group is used for space permissions only those group members with active Harvard Wiki accounts will be able to access the space. Grouper group membership does not automatically grant access to the Harvard Wiki.
All existing groups that begin with harvard: are no longer automatically populated and are considered legacy groups. This includes harvard:bundle:affiliations:all-current. Use of this group should be replaced with confluence-users as all Harvard Wiki users get added to this group. If the desire is to allow anyone with Harvard Wiki access to view content then the confluence-users group should be used since it contains all active users.
Please email jirahelp@fas.harvard.edu to request a Grouper group sync.
