Accessing Pierce 12A Computers via Windows Remote Desktop (RDP)

Preliminary Requirement

In order to remotely access the Pierce G12 computers you need to be added to a specific VPN tunnel. Currently, access has been granted only to ES100 and ES96 students due to the nature of their projects and the limited number of computers available. Please contact Nishant Sule (nsule@seas.harvard.edu) or Mohammad Souri (msouri@seas.harvard.edu) with your specific needs if you would like to remotely access the Pierce G12 computers. Note that due to limited resources and priority for ES100 and ES96, access might not be granted to everyone.

How to connect via RDP

  1. First, connect to Harvard FAS VPN via the SEASALLLAB tunnel. If you are not setup with VPN, please visit: https://huit.harvard.edu/links/vpn-fas. For any questions on general VPN setup, please contact ithelp@harvard.edu. If you are setup with VPN (with "Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client" or equivalent app installed), open it and proceed as below.

While logging into VPN, you need to specify the tunnel. Specification takes the form <Your_Harvard_Key_Login_Name>#SEASALLLAB.

  2. You need to have a Windows RDP client. Please visit: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028379/windows-10-how-to-use-remote-desktop or google.
  3. Next, pick a free machine in Pierce 12A to login to. Visit the map below to locate a free machine. Any green machine with a white square in the middle is free (blue with a triangle means it is occupied, anything else means it is unavailable).

  4. If you find, for example, EAS-G12A-15 is free, you connect to the machine by appending .int.seas.harvard.edu to it.  So the complete address is:
    EAS-G12A-15.int.seas.harvard.edu.
  5. Create a desktop on the microsoft remote rdp client you have downloaded with the domain name EAS-G12A-15.int.seas.harvard.edu

        6.  Clicking (or double clicking) on the newly created desktop will open the login screen. Login with your Harvard Key.

      7. Once you put in login credentials and click on 'continue', you will see a pop-up message as follows:

Just press "Continue" and you will be in the machine.
