Finding things in Acquisitions and Books End-Processing: Spring 2019
As materials come into the library, Meg has a collection bay.
Items in this area have not yet been accessioned or processed financially in Alma. If you need access to them, please see Meg or Lewis.
After Meg has accessioned books and book-like items, she places them on (at present) five bays of shelves. Three bays are next to the incoming books bay; the other two are adjacent to Meg’s desk.
All of these materials are checked-out in Aeon (Technical Services-Acquisitions).
After materials return from cataloging, they are placed in two bays of holding shelves for end-processing.
All of these materials are checked-out in Aeon (Technical Services-End Processing).
Fearing materials are staged in the next bay.
All of these materials are checked-out in Aeon (Technical Services-End Processing).
Items slated for CMI casing are left by catalogers (and others) in the bay adjacent to the 3 cataloging bays.
Items which have been measured for CMI cases and for which cases are in preparation are staged in the area between the two desks in the End-Processing workroom.
Materials are then staged for pasting.
After pasting, materials are staged for barcoding and delivery to either the sub-basement or HD.
After materials are barcoded, they will have the long 32044… barcodes.
When you see a slip with a barcode formatted as 123456 or alma6789 the item has not completed the end-processing stage. Once an item has the 32044… barcode, it is on its way out of the Mezzanine and should have a status of Request Finished.
Books awaiting Phase Boxes and other items which have been sent to Lewis for handling may be found opposite his desk in a bay of materials marked for this treatment.
All of these materials are checked-out in Aeon (Technical Services-End Processing), and have a Staff Note in the Aeon record explaining their exact location.
A significant cohort of broadsides and other flat materials have been relocated to the Lamont Map Room while awaiting cataloging. There are clearly marked.
All of these materials are checked-out in Aeon (Technical Services-Acquisitions), and have a Staff Note in the Aeon record explaining their exact location.
These materials include boded items, serials, loose print matter, and several fragile objects.
There are also a number of broadsides and other single-sheet items in folders.
If you remove material from this area, please note on your slip that items should be returned to the Map Room. Questions regarding acquisition should be directed to Meg, and questions regarding cataloging should be directed to Linda.
