Delivery of Original Materials to Widener
Delivery of Original Materials to Widener
Overview:
Original material from owning repositories is regularly transported to Widener Library for digitization. No standard protocol for delivery exists, and different repositories use different methods.
While original material is in the care of Imaging Services and not actively being worked on, it is stored in secure, locked cabinets.
Details:
Harvard Map Collection:
Material is delivered directly to Widener D-level production areas by Map Collection staff and is signed in by Imaging Services staff. The Map Collection delivers material with its own paperwork that must be connected to the Aeon Job Ticket.
Harvard University Archives:
Theses are delivered to G-81. No signature required.
All other material is delivered either directly to Widener D-level or to the Patron Services office, Widener G-81. Archives material comes with a call slip bearing the associated Aeon transaction number.
Houghton Library:
Material is delivered directly to Widener D-level production areas by Houghton staff. All Houghton material comes with an associated Aeon job ticket and, if appropriate, a DRS spreadsheet. The Aeon ticket for each order is signed by Imaging staff to acknowledge receipt.
All other repostories:
Material should be delivered to the Patron Services office, Widener G-81. The means of delivery varies. Some items are simply walked over, carried by Library staff. Large quantities are sometimes wheeled over on a cart. Sometimes HUMS, or a courier service is employed.
Patron Services receives the material and stores it in G-81 in a secure cabinet. When an invoice is paid, Patron Services staff deliver the material together with the job ticket to the appropriate production area.
