Finding Locations for Materials in ArchivesSpace

There are many use cases for staff needing to find the location of archival materials: patron initiated request through Hollis with a holdings record location of AS; staff initiated searching; staff shelving (or reshelving) materials.

The process for finding locations in ArchivesSpace is outlined below.

  • Open and log in to ArchivesSpace
  • Navigate to the gear menu in the top right of screen
  • Select “Manage Top Containers”

  • In the search screen that appears, search for the materials in question. It is often most efficient to search the “Resource” field by call number, which should auto-populate the appropriate title of the collection.
  • Click “Search” in the bottom right of screen

  • A list of Top Containers should appear with the locations listed
