Processing Planning

Processing plans and processing planning meetings should be held for all processing projects for levels 2-3, unless an exception has been made and agreed upon by the archivist, appropriate curator(s), and the Head of the Manuscript Section. Plans and meetings help estimate the work and effort required for processing and end processing of archival collections, ensure good communication about the collection and processing across archivists, curators, and the end processing staff, and assist with setting goals for each year.

Processing plans should be completed after the collection has been surveyed. After the Head, Manuscript Section has seen the plan, it should be shared with the appropriate curator, assistant curator as necessary, and the manuscripts end processor via email. A meeting, in person or Zoom, should be scheduled with all involved parties. A meeting is not absolutely necessary if all parties agree communication can be handled via email.
