Collection Information

Source of Acquisition: Sarah Adams, Eda Kuhn Loeb Music Library, received, May 2016

Current Arrangement and Description:  Much of the collection has a meaningful order and comes with some description. There is an excel spreadsheet with decent file level description. A spreadsheet is being filled out for the audio and visual materials, at item level. The collection is currently housed in plastic tubs, Paige record cartons, flat sheet music boxes, and three ring binders. The material in the tubs is loose and will need sorting and housing. This will likely be one of the more time-consuming aspects of processing but contains the least valuable material. The material in the record cartons and binders too will need re-housing, as most of the files are in hanging folders (confirm with Sarah).

Size of Collection (linear feet): circa 130 linear feet

Preservation Issues: No major preservation issues noted. There is a large amount of A/V material that will have to be reformatted to be used.

Restrictions: none

Processing Information

Proposed Arrangement:

Series I: Scores (22 linear feet)

Arranged roughly in alphabetical order by composition. Some loose items, some already in folders. Arrange and describe at file (composition) level or folder level (material types within composition).

Series II: : Scrapbooks (binders) and Photographs (35 linear feet)

Arranged chronologically and sometimes topically in three-ring binders. Photographs are in albums but also loose and in envelopes. All materials will need to be re-housed. Arrange and describe at binder level with comprehensive scope and content note if value of contents merits. Arrange and describe photographs at file or album level.

Possible sub-series: Press, family, events, annual

Series III: Personal and Subject Files (60 linear feet)

Contains business and financial material, contracts, correspondence, press clippings, press releases, printed ephemera, project files, photographs, and much else. In original order, roughly alphabetical? Material in hanging folders will need rehousing. Arrange and describe at file level.

Possible sub-series: Early life, subject files (file cabinet), financial and business (if easily identified as separate from files) and then some sort of general.

Series IV: Printed Material (2 linear feet)

Possible subseries: Posters, ephemera, secondary literature (likely to be weeded)

Series V: Audio and Visual Material (10 linear feet)

Contains CD, VHS, DVDs, audio cassettes, open reel video, open reel audio, LP, DAT, mixed format video. Currently non-commercial titles are being described at item-level in spreadsheet.

Proposed Level of Processing: In general, collection will be processed at the file level. Audio and visual material will be processed at the item level, including posters.

Begin Date: July 1, 2017

Proposed Deadline: October 31, 2018
