Evacuation Procedure - Widener G-81

When building alarm sounds:

  1. All staff, after completing assigned personnel duties (below), must evacuate via the primary evacuation route or secondary evacuation route and proceed to the designated evacuation assembly area.
    1. Primary Evacuation Route: Exit G-81 through any door. Turn right. Follow corridor to Mass. Ave. entrance. Exit building and proceed to assembly area.
    2. Secondary Evacuation Route: Exit through any door. Turn left and exit through the Widener West entrance. Exit building and proceed to assembly area.
  2. Meet at Assembly Area – Boylston Hall front steps. Await further instructions from supervisor.

Personnel Duties:

  1. Patron Services assigned personnel duties are as follows:
      1. Public Service area (front counter) must be cleared of all patrons. If patrons will not leave the area, alert security guard at Mass. Ave. entrance to the situation on way out of the building. Do not call or wait for security before exiting the building. Do not stay in building with patron(s). The following people will notify patrons at front counter:
        1. Primary - Yuhua Li
        2. Secondary - Richard Burns
      2. Patron Services Office “head-count” must be taken to be certain that all Patron Services staff have exited the building. There are three full-time staff – Yuhua Li, Richard Burns, and Thomas Lingner. The following people will report on the whereabouts of all staff:
        1. Primary – Thomas Lingner
        2. Secondary – Yuhua Li
  2. On the way out of the building, staff should report anything important to the response effort (i.e. Injured persons, location of fire, person(s) unwilling to evacuate, etc.).
  3. Staff should not re-enter the building until confirmation has been given by authorized personnel involved with the Emergency Response.
