V. Description

Accessioning should be quick but as accurate as possible. Avoid authority checking except for the chief associated names. Forms and genres of material present should be summarily mentioned, particularly highlighting visual, digital, audiovisual, and unusual materials (realia, etc.). One subject heading is mandatory in the MARC record, but it is desirable to create several key subject headings especially for collections larger than one box. With easy access to biographical information, it is also helpful and not time-consuming to provide a brief biographical/history note. Special attention should be paid to Harvard-related materials that may fall under local subject headings established by the University Archives.
