Framed Material

FRAMES AND DEFRAMING

The accessioning archivist, usually with input from the curator, decides whether to deframe a given item. The deframing can be done by the accessioning archivists, or the end processor. The end processor will provide deframing training and guidance for new staff, and handle problematic frame removal, referring the most difficult items to Preservation when necesssary.

MATS
Once the decision has been made to deframe, we prefer to remove things from mats when possible.  The archivist may first check with the curator if there is no note in the accessions database.  The end processor will advise and carry out removing the items from the mats.
