Testing an email 

When you have added all text, images, and alt text to your email, we recommend sending a test to yourself and to a colleague who can proofread your email.

  1. Select the “Send Test” button from the top of the editor menu. 
  2. In the “to” line, input your email, and any other emails the test should go to. There is no limit on the number of recipients of a test email. 
  3. Input your subject line and pre-header text. You can still change this when you send the final email. 
  4. Anything you write in the “Note” field will appear as a message for your recipients. You might want to ask recipients for specific feedback, or give them information on when the final email will be sent. 
  5. You may edit the sender name and email at this time. You may also edit them again when you prepare to send the final email.  

Reviewing and sending an email 

After you have incorporated any final changes to your email draft, you may review and send your email.

  1. Select the “Review and Send” button from the top of the editor menu. 
  2. Emma will tell you that it is “proofing your email” for common errors. PLEASE NOTE: Your email is NOT being checked for grammar or spelling. You will be notified if your email contains broken links or too much text. 
  3. Add recipients to your email. You may select any combination of groups, segments, or subscriptions. Emma will automatically de-duplicate lists, so recipients will only receive 1 copy of the email, even if they appear on two lists. 
  4. Write a short, descriptive subject line. 
  5. Writing pre-header text is optional. If you do not add pre-header text, the first few words of the email will appear in the pre-header area when the email is sent. 
  6. You may edit the sender name and email address if you wish. 

 

Schedule your email in advance. 

  1. Select the “Schedule for Later” link. 
  2. Choose an appropriate date and time. 
  3. Optional: You may add email addresses of individuals who should be notified when the email is sent. This could include a manager in your office, or your own email. 

Advanced option: Google analytics  

When reviewing your email, you may add a short string of characters for Google Analytics. If you use this option, the characters will be added to a UTM code for each link. You can then use Google Analytics to measure how many people visited a page from a given “campaign” or email.
