Houghton Library collections contain a wide variety of media types. Although most media types can be
reformatted through Harvard Library's Media Preservation Services, at least one type still requires a
vendor. This page lists format types supported by MPS or vendor, as well as our current vendor name
and contact.

  • Reel to reel: both ¼ and ½ inch audio, full track, half track, quarter track and any standard tape speed
  • Compact cassette tape
  • Micro-cassette tape
  • ADAT and DA-88 digital tape
  • DAT tape
  • Son mini-disc
  • Red book CD audio
  • LP records
  • Transcription disc or acetate record
  • Wire recordings

Video

  • VHS formats; including PAL and SECAM; U-matic; beta cam; beta SP; digi-beta, 8mm, mini-dv, dvc and pro.

Film

  • 16mm up to 5K HDR
  • 35mm up to 5K HDR
