VII.7. Volume Literals

Houghton catalogers may follow RDA B.7, Latin Alphabet Abbreviations for expressing volume designations.

The LC-PCC PS Alternative to the general guideline found at RDA B.1 states:

When recording the attributes of a manifestation or item, follow appropriate international standards on the use of abbreviations or of symbols for units of measurement. However, the agency creating the data can choose to establish in-house guidelines for abbreviations or symbols for units of measurement, or choose a published style manual, etc., as its preferred guide. When this occurs, use those guidelines or that style manual instead of Appendix B.

To that end, here is a short list of the most commonly used approved wording/abbreviations for expressing volume designations at Houghton. See also Yale University's AACR2 Abbrevations.
