Use of NET sublibrary in Aleph
This does not apply in Alma. For Alma, see Alma location codes - usage information
When cataloging online resources in Aleph, staff should use "NET" in 852 |b if:
- The resource is available to current Harvard users
- There is an actionable link in the 856 field.
If either of these conditions is not met, staff should not use the NET sublibrary code.
For content that is not available Harvard-wide, staff should use their local sublibrary code (e.g. MED, LAW), and collection code "NET," e.g. 852 |b LAW |c NET.
For NET holdings:
- Use collection code "GEN" for locally digitized resources.
- Use collection code "ERES" for vendor resources such as ebooks. See more at E-Resources cataloging best practice: Aleph collection code ERES
- Additional collection codes include:
- Databases (code: DBASE). See more at E-Resources cataloging best practice: Aleph collection code DBASE
- DRS archival material (DRSAR) suppressed from public display with a non-actionable link
- Batch-loaded e-resources (e.g. DASH, EEBO, MRCIT, etc.)
- Registry of digital masters (RDM)
- Archived WAX content (WAX)
