X. Creating a bookmark report
While FTK’s bookmarking utility is effective at communicating file selection and description between staff, there is no simple way to bulk edit or export bookmark data such as the names of the bookmarks you create. Instead, we use FTK’s report module to create a convenient formatted document with your lists of bookmarks, metadata including bookmark comments and creators, and technical metadata for the files you have bookmarked. This procedure is optional and it is beneficial if you want to keep a copy of the work you have done in FTK for reporting purposes or to enter data into your Finding Aid more quickly. |

In your case, navigate to “File” -> “Report…” to open the “Report Options” dialog.
Deselect all check boxes except “Bookmarks.”
Click “Bookmarks” then select which bookmarks you would like to generate a report on. Click “OK.”
In the “Report Output” dialog, use the “…” button next to the “Report Folder” field to select an empty folder to which you will save the report. Under “Formats” check the “ODT” box only. Under “Export Options” you may uncheck “Append extension to filename if bad/absent” to cut down on processing time.
Click “OK.”
Copying the list of bookmark names
If you would like to copy the list of bookmark names to cut down on the time you spend typing out archival object names in your finding aid, you can use the table of contents in the report you created. |
---|
Navigate to the Report Folder you identified and open “Report.odt.” The report will take some time to load.
In the table of contents, highlight and copy all of the bookmarks.
Open a new LibreOffice Writer document. Right-click in the document and under “Paste Special” click “Unformatted Text” or use the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V.
Finally, use Ctrl+H to open the “Find & Replace” dialog. Under "Other options," check the "Regular Expressions" option. In the Find field, paste “\t[:digit:]{1,3}” and then click “Replace All.” The link formatting will be removed and you will have a text list of your bookmarks.
