May 25, 2024 data sniffing:

online data repository: https://piscopublic.cfa.harvard.edu/

Note that PISCO data files have 8 image frames. Unbinned files are 158 Mbyes; files 39 Mbytes in size are binned 2x2.

To see all the frames of a PISCO FITS file similarly oriented, use a ds9 command like this, substituting the FITS filename for $1

ds9 -geometry 1600x950 -tile column -multiframe $1 -frame 1 -zoom .24 -scale ZScale -frame 2 -zoom .24 -scale ZScale -orient x -frame 3 -zoom .24 -scale ZScale -orient x -frame 4 -zoom .24 -scale ZScale -frame move back -frame 5 -zoom .24 -scale ZScale -orient y -frame 6 -zoom .24 -scale ZScale -orient xy -frame 7 -zoom .24 -scale ZScale -orient xy -frame 8 -zoom .24 -scale ZScale -orient y -frame move back

installed ds9 with macport on laptop. nope, build failed.

finally did the following: install Xquartz, install X11 version of ds9, change a permission issue with

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine ds9

to get ds9 going, start XQuartz first then run ds9 from the X11 terminal window. In the past used to use xgterm. Let's see if that exists. Nope. But that's an IRAF thing so not going to worry about it.

made piscoDS9.sh on search path, need to run from xterm window. This boots up DS9 with something like the correct formatting, as shown above.
