temperature sensor add-on

temperature sensor add-on

March 14, 2022

We should add a temperature sensor to the interior of the Version 2 solar cells. A good sensor is LM35AH, good accuracy and output of 10mV/C.

data sheet: lm35.pdf

To get bipolar output from single power supply:

We should glue one of these onto the plexiglass mount or onto the solar cell itself. Then we need to add a 4 pin bulkhead connector. Picked 6 pins since it's always good to have extras

And add the two diodes and the 18K resistor internal to the package.

Bought 6 pin bulkhead solder connectors from Amazon

better connectors from Ebay:

OOPS- part numbers below are wrong.

"We will send MSW06E10-6S Plug to mate with the MSW02E10-6P Box Mount Receptacle."

Some notes about the milspecwest cable connectors:

Additional holes need to be drilled in the solar cell holder to allow the connecting cable to be attached. You want 1/8" drill size for the four smaller holes, 9/16" for the center hole, and you want to go +/- .3595" from the center hole to drill the small holes on the side.

Also bought panel DVM for direct readout of temperature.
