Feb 2023 Chile trip

DIMSUM to do:

  1. add label to Canon camera
  2. change batteries on flash receiver
  3. try shorter exposures on canon system, and synching flash with shutter (note: this may actually not be necessary, since we can now take images in the daytime)
  4. try along-sight-line weighting calibration run
    1. https://www.decorativefilm.com/installation-instructions
    2. https://www.decorativefilm.com/sx-1259-wavy-glass
  5. Fix the storage issue of the camera. Camera currently thinks that its storage is full and can't take any more pictures. We do not know whether this is a software thing or hardware thing. Steps to debug:
    1. Try taking pictures with the camera manually.
    2. If camera takes pictures manually, try connecting to the camera through Eos Utility (either by attaching a screen to macmini or screen sharing with it)
    3. If pictures can't be taken with Eos Utllity, or Eos Utility states that camera is busy, take the battery of the camera and put it back in. That would give it a hardcore reset.
    4. Try reaching to camera with Eos Utlity again.
    5. Once you have reached the camera, select Liveview/shoot option from the EOS Utility menu.
    6. Check the count on top right of the picture taking menu (next to where it shows camera battery). Note that number down.
    7. Change the picture taking setting from highspeed mutliple to single.
    8. Take a single picture.
    9. Check the count mentioned on step f again and see how it decreased.
    10. Close Livewivew/shoot menu and go back to main menu of Eos Utility.
    11. Choose Download Images to computer, and choose select download. You will be able to see the pictures stored on the camera. There should be no pictures. If there are any pictures, delete them.
    12. Close Eos Utility.
    13. Open a terminal window in Macmini.
    14. Run the command

      cd /Users/stubbslab/documents/strobed_dimm/code

      and

      ./CommunicateTrial.sh

    15. This script should take a picture, download it to computer, and delete from the camera.

    16. Check whether the script worked with single picture taking mode.

    17. If the script worked properly, set up DIMSUM. Go through steps 1 to 8 in here DIMSUM Documentation.

    18. Try to take picture of the flashes using gphoto 2.

    19. If that works, modify the script in a way that camera waits a desired amount of time before taking another picture. Ask Ali for help if needed.

    20. Once all of this works, we should have a system where we could make the dimsum run for 24 hours.

LATISS to do:

  1. install new quad notch filter + disperser
  2. Aux tel streaked flats, see https://jira.lsstcorp.org/browse/SITCOM-471
  3. confer with Ioana about status of earlier test data.

Anemometer to do:

  1. make plans for installation of 3-4 Campbell anemometers on AuxTel
  2. make plans for installation of anemometers on TMA (and make sure this timeline works with other scheduling constraints, giving the mechanical engineers enough time to design things, etc.)

CBP + solar cell to do:

  1. go into main dome, figure out where the laser will be mounted, and confirm that the yellow railings on level 8 are a good place to mount the solar cells

Illuminator:

telescope plus fiber feed to make point source, plus cylindrical lens
