Repurposing Memorabilia data from database to finding aid

Memorabilia is listed individually in the finding aid, as well as in a separate database.

Data collected about memorabilia should be entered first into the database, and can then be exported into xml for use in the finding aid.

If you have more than 10 items of memorablila, this is the way to go. Feel free to do it for less than 10 as well.

Entering memorabilia information into the database first requires that you begin by grouping, numbering, and (often) housing it. While the Memorabilia database does not ask you to record the title you have given a card of buttons, for instance, it does require that you know the item numbers of each button. So you will have to know that they are to be called "x.xm-1" and "x.xm-2" etc.

Doing this data entry "backwards" may take some time to get used to. Don't hesitate to ask your team lead for help or advice.

Once you have entered the memorabilia into the database, you can export some of the data fields out to the finding aid. This process takes the form of Filemaker > Excel > Xml. Directions follow.
