Description for Label and Structure Options

Option 1: Without label and structures

  • We don’t need anything extra other than how to name the object names.
  • Object Owner Supplied Name (Object OSN): [Repository supplied name]
  • File Owner Supplied Name (File OSN): [Repository supplied name]_####
  • There will be no label, page level metadata, or page structures created.

Option 2: Auto generated labels from MMSID

  • Imaging Services needs MMSID to name the object and files.
  • Can only be used with MMSID as prefix for object and file names
    • Object OSN: [MMSID] or [MMSID]_[x+], where x+ is one or more characters
    • File OSN: [MMSID]_#### or [MMSID]_[x+]_####
  • There will be no object label ("Current METS label" as defined in DRS) for the object in DRS.
  • The object label is generated on the fly in the format of "Author, Title, Published,Creation Date" when the object is displayed in the Viewer.
  • There will be no page level metadata and page structures created.

       Examples:

  • MMSID: 990050722340203941
  • Object OSN: 990050722340203941_0001 (since this is the first volume of this title)
  • File OSN: 990050722340203941_0001_0001, 990050722340203941_0001_0002, ...
  • In Viewer: https://nrs.harvard.edu/URN-3:FHCL:101478922

Option 3: Customized label without structures

  • Imaging Services needs spreadsheets based on one of these templates
    1. Template1_simple.xlsx (see Example #1 in this section)
    2. Template2_simple-row-style.xlsx (see Example #2 in this section)
    3. Template3_simple_with_page_lbl.xlsx (see Example #3 in this section)
  • Can use MMSID or non-MMSID as object and file names (provided in the spreadsheet)
    • Object OSN: [Unique Object ID] field in the spreadsheet
    • File OSN:
      • [Unique Object ID]_#### in the cases of templates 1 and 2
      • Or [File names] from the spreadsheet in the case of template 3
    • Can have specific wording in the object label ([Object Label] field in the spreadsheet)
    • Page level metadata is possible (using “File names” and “Page labels” columns in the spreadsheet). Use Template3_simple_with_page_lbl. See Example #3 in this section.
    • There will be no page structures created.

       Examples:

  1. Non-MMSID name, customized object label, no page-level label, and without structure.
  2. Non-MMSID name, customized object label, no page-level label, and without structure.
  3. Non-MMSID name, customized object label, page-level label, and without structure.

Option 4: Customized label with structures

  • IS needs spreadsheets based on one of these templates
  • Can use special (non-MMSID) filenames
    • Object OSN: [Unique Object ID] (field in the spreadsheet)
    • File OSN:
      • [File names] in the case of Template4
      • [Unique Object ID]_[Section]_####, in the case of Template5
    • Can have specific wording in the object label ([Object Label] field in the spreadsheet)
    • Page level metadata is possible as well as page structures
      • Use template Template4
      • See Example #1 in this section
    • Can have page structure (divide pages into sections)
      • Use template Template5
      • See Example #2 in this section

        Examples:

  1. MMSID name, customized object label, page-level label, and structures.
  2. Non-MMSID name, customized object label, no page-level label, and section-coded structures.

Option 5: Special Cases

  • Consult with IS if there is a specific way you would like to have your objects constructed.
  • Usually this will involve extra development time on IS and extra work for repositories to prepare the batches.
