ePADD is free and open source software developed by Stanford University's Special Collections & University Archives that supports the appraisal, processing, preservation, discovery, and delivery of email archives. It includes powerful computational techniques including machine learning, natural language processing, and named entity recognition to help users access and search email collections of historical and cultural value.
In 2021-2022, Harvard Library partnered with Stanford University and University of Manchester (UK) on an 18-month project to integrate preservation functionality into ePADD. (See more information on the ePADD+ project web site.)
In March 2023, after nine months spent integrating ePADD into our local DRS environment, Harvard Library adopted ePADD as a replacement for our original and home-grown Email Archiving System (EAS) which made its debut in 2015.
