NET holdings
All digital material that is available for research use through the finding aid and/or HOLLIS record must have an additional holdings record, called a NET holdings, in Alma. The NET holdings record provides a direct link from the catalog record to the digital material, and it allows HOLLIS to display a second location (“Networked Resource”) for the collection.
To create NET holdings in Alma, it's easiest to use a template. There are currently four templates, and they are held privately by the Metadata specialist (Paula). If you need access to these templates she can share them with you.
Templates:
SCH NET archival collections: Use for all collections, whether whole or part digitized. Links to finding aid. Approved by NET holdings group 2021
SCH NET archived websites: Use for links to archived websites.
SCH NET AV digitized items through FA: Use for digitized AV, including both video and audio files. Use for links presented through finding aid
SCH NET AV digitized items with direct links: Use for digitized AV, including both video and audio files. Use for direct links to digitized materials, not finding aids
SCH born digital: Use for links to born-digital items, such as PDFs "transformed digitally" and deposited into DRS
Using the template in Alma:
- Find your bibliographic record in Alma. Choose Edit. Choose View Related Data–View Inventory to see if there are any existing NET holdings and whether you need to make one.
- If you need to make one, click Exit
To create a new holding, click on the Templates tab in the Left Pane to expand that section
Expand the tab for the template that you want to use: in this case Holdings
Expand the Private folder and click on the template.
From the drop-down set of choices, select New Record from Template
This will open a new holdings record in the Metadata Editor based on the template you selected. It will have the fields that need to be populated, and default values for fixed fields. The bib and the new, unsaved holdings record will be side by side in the MDE
