Feb 2024 Aux Tel

date

Feb 10, 11 2024

dome closed all day. good comparison for subsequent days

Feb 12 2024

dome slit opened 1547 UT
vent is blowing outwards

all four vents opened, slit ~10% (by eyeball), extraction fan VFD at 50Hz (oft mis-characterized as "percent") if you wish to check your telemetry.  I will be working on deciphering the extraction fan VFD modbus command structures this afternoon, so fan speed will probably be changing quite a bit

Air temp dropped 5C upon opening the slit.

Tests for Feb 13:

1) roll telescope to horizon for storage
2) find biggest fan and blow upwards along dome edge towards slit
3) leave other lower vents closed. We're just circulating air from lower level with vent fan on
4) daytime venting

Feb 13 2024

0900 local - Plan is to roll telescope over to low elevation to keep M2 from baking, point telescope N at low elevation, and dome slit S cracked open. Lower vent open and fan at full speed, exhausting through vent.
looking at choronagraf this seems to be working really well. Daytime M2 maxima were around 33C, night-time 19C. With active ventilation and telescope at low elevation we see M2 at 25C so ten degrees cooler. Sonic temperature (dome air riding along with elevation) was 36C and now is 24C so about 12C cooler.
Slit is 20% open. We're watching webcam for direct sunlight.

Error at 1600 local where shutter was closed

1713 local- more issues with dome. It's now being shut again.

1732 local - shutter now 100% open and dome slit pointed East.

Goal is to do some thermal management tests with Aux Tel.
Fritz says dome shutter open fraction and orientation are accessible in EFD and chronograf.

Added dome shutter open fraction and orientation to IQ Trial panel in coronagraf.
Analysis tasks: compare dome status and vent fan speed to temperature behavior for Feb 12 and Feb 13. Compare Aux Tel daytime dome temp with main telescope.
